That is indeed *one* solution. I wish I knew what was causing the
specific behavior. There are also some sessions issues that need to be
solved even under apache 1.x (these are php sessions issues - not apache
issues)

Interesting the changes that have occurred in apache/php/mysql since I
first started messing with this code :)
