These maybe pie in the sky, but I'll suggest anyway. 
1) CSS based templates to ease editing of how the data is displayed
2) Change all the requests to posts instead of gets
3) Have directory based URLS ie 
http://yourdomain.com/1989
http://yourdomain.com/toyota
http://yourdomain.com/camry
http://yourdomain.com/12345678901234567
that recognize you are looking for a specific VIN, year, make or model and
perform the appropriate search.
