I need a little bit more information to completely diagnose this. First, 
which version are you using? Second, are you seeing the thumbnail in the 
db? Third, how are you checking the resulting image? Fourth, are you 
sure you are previewing the thumbs?
To check to make sure the thumb is being used on the preview page, right 
click the image in your browser and select view image. This should show 
the smaller image.
If you just dropped a few files into place on an already working site 
you need to make a few edits to ensure the scripts work. For instance if 
you added the thumbnail.php file but didn't edit admin.php or 
agentadmin.php you will not get the thumbs loaded into the db (but you 
might have a bunch of thumb_$filname files in /tmp)
